Centerstage Productions presents the critically acclaimed comedy Bengal Bungalow at the Lionel Wendt this September which promises audiences a side splitting comedic theatre experience.
The original script, written by the celebrated playwright Jehan Aloysius while he was in school, is a satirical and wacky, fast paced comedy that follows an eccentric British family living in India whose home, the ‘Bengal Bungalow’ is turned into a mad house when a British pilot accidentally crashes his plane into their newly refurbished guest room.
Due to the crash, the purported pilot is afflicted with amnesia which in turn results in an array of hilarious misunderstandings, mayhem and bewilderment inside the home
The lady of the house Lillian ‘picks’ the pilot as her husband and marries him straight away, distressing her suitor Charles Worthing - who was not that great to begin with.
Throw in a mix of British and Indian characters varying from a notorious robber, an unlucky priest and the pilot’s actual wife, not forgetting a menagerie of colorful animals and a crazy whirlwind of a story is spun.
A new cast will be lending their talent to Bengal Bungalow with the leads played by Anabelle Brochard, Shehan Wijeymana, Keshiya Leitch, Dino Corera and Heshan Perera.
We’ll also get to see a few new faces such as Shehantha Aeyesundare, Trevor Kroon and Anoop Kapukotuwa.
The proceeds from the play will go on to promote theatre workshops and continue to help humanitarian work around the island.
The troupes most recently production ‘An inspired Swan Lake’ in collaboration with the Sunera foundation, was hailed as an innovative achievement in Sri Lankan theatre, played to a packed house, and received rave reviews.
